Sociology of Education

  1. EDU 701 Social Stratification and Education [3]
  2. Based on social stratification theories, this course will analyze the role and the limitations of education in terms of social movement and discuss the current Korean society.

  3. EDU 702 Sociology of Educational Reform [3]
  4. This course provides an overview of some of the significant educational reforms in a number of countries including Korea. The elements, motives, and consequences of educational reforms, and the policies that obstruct or enhance changes are analyzed with a sociological perspective.

  5. EDU 703 Economics of Education [3]
  6. This course focuses on introducing economic concepts and applying them to education. Topics include the concept of human capital, investment and consumption theories of education, the benefits and costs of education, benefit-cost analyses in education, and the relationship between education and economic growth.

  7. EDU 705 Social Psychology of Education [3]
  8. The main purpose of this course is to study the social psychological contents related to education, such as socialization or role theory.

  9. EDU 706 Theories of the Sociology of Education [3]
  10. The main purpose of this course is to provide an overview of the major theories of the sociology of education, and discuss their implications for the educational realities in Korea.

  12. This course will help students understand the issues involved with a diverse nation, and guide them to think critically and reflectively when they make decisions as a teacher in a diverse classroom.

  13. EDU 931 Higher Education and Labor Market [3]
  14. In this course, the function of higher education in current society will be examined and the interaction that exists between higher education and the labor market will be discussed based on real cases.

  15. EDU 952 Anthropology of Education [3]
  16. This course is designed to introduce anthropological issues and approaches that are relevant to the study of education. Students will be exposed to research in the field of anthropology of education that examine cultural differences, minority status, and learning. By the end of this course, students will be equipped with a range of research skills that enable them to successfully perform their own anthropological research.
