Research Methodology Courses

  1. EDU 506 Qualitative Methods in Educational Research [3]
  2. This course will provide an overview of the multiple traditions of "qualitative research" in education with a focus on ethnographic fieldwork, participant observation, and cultural analysis associated with anthropology, as applied to face-to-face interactions in educational settings. Also, it will introduce the social-cultural theories associated with educational anthropology. Students will develop appropriate research questions, design, and ethical sensitivity by doing fieldworks. Exercise assignments will provide introductory experiences with data collection methods, including observation, interviewing, and document collection, as well as with strategies for on-going and post-field analysis and write-up, such as field note writing and audio/video recordings.

  3. EDU 515 Methods in Educational Research [3]
  4. Discussion of scientific approaches for educational study, with principal interest in illuminating the logic and design of research, data collection, test construction, and report writing.

  5. EDU 523 Quantitative Methods in Educational Research [3]
  6. Basic statistical topics for conducting educational research will be covered. Topics include hypothesis testing, group comparison methods, correlation, and regression analysis.

  7. EDU 765 Asian Educational Leader I
  8. The goal of the course is to teach the knowledge, attitude, and practice necessary to be an Asian Educational Leader. The course will provide the theory and the practice of the educational practices in Asia, and deliver active learning methods. The course is developed as a part of BK21 Plus program.
